About us

Our mission is to showcase the captivating allure of Japanese art to the world. With its distinct delicacy and elegance, Japanese art, culture, and techniques have garnered global admiration.

The Tengetsu Gallery is dedicated to sharing the diverse aspects of Japanese culture, from artworks rooted in mythology and Buddhism, sculptures and ceramics, to vibrant contemporary art and illustrations.

The Tengetsu Gallery draws its name from the kiln used by Hōraku Nakamura, an esteemed potter and the father of our representative, Maruko Ote.

Tengetsu beautifully combines the words for heaven (Ten) and moon (Getsu), reflecting the celestial elegance of his creations. Our vision is to curate art that mirrors the tranquil serenity of the moon—its light gently illuminating the fields, mountains, and villages of the countryside with its radiant glow.

Fujisan Eden

The Mount Fuji Illustrated Scrolls are a pictorial work that visualizes the myths and legends associated with Mt.Fuji, Japan’s most iconic mountain. These artworks carry the apparel of passing on these traditions to spread their message of peace to future generations and the world.

Back in Japan, where the original paintings are carefully preserved as cultural assets in Shizuoka Prefecture, the scrolls garnered attention when they were exhibited at the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center and the Culture City of East Asia Project.

Inspired by the remarkable art style featured in the scrolls, we have launched a collection of artisanal reproductions and merchandise. Additionally, we have built into the legacy by commissioning tribute art from various artists. Our goal is to share the artistic and cultural significance, along with the inherent message of peace found in this work, with as wide an audience as possible through our product designs.
